The Greening the Holidays event held on December 8, 2008 was a great success! Over 150 community members attended the event throughout the evening. Attendees visited stations themed according to the major areas of environmental concern during the holidays: energy, food, gifts, and decorations and wrapping. Stations included information, examples, and hands-on activities. In addition to these stations, community members helped to decorate a local, organic tree which was generously donated by Roll Out Farm in nearby Pilot, VA. The tree was decorated with used ornaments donated by the YMCA Thrift Store and recycled ornaments created by children who attended the event. The “greenly” decorated tree was then donated to a local family in need. Thanks to all who participated!
Greening the Holidays was part of the Go Green Series, a community workshop series about relevant environmental sustainability issues, presented by Sustainable Blacksburg and the Blacksburg Public library.
