Rain barrels decorated by local artists and area schools will be auction off during Sustainability Week: Wed. Oct 22nd- Saturday Oct. 25th. Barrels will be on display and open for silent auction bidding in the Municipal Building, 300 South Main Street Wednesday through Friday of that week. On Saturday, the barrels will be moved to the Blacksburg Motor Company where bids will close at 2pm. The successful bidders will be announced at 2:15pm at the end of the Blacksburg Motor Company Tours. Winners will need to be present at the conclusion of the auction to receive their barrels. Attaching a rain barrel to your roof gutters is a low cost way to reduce storm water runoff, conserve water, and irrigate your garden in dry weather. Rain barrels can be purchased or made from reused containers. Coca Cola Bottling has donated barrels to Sustainability Week to demonstrate how rain barrels can be made and can be attractive additions to your landscape.
