Blacksburg Transit Adds Hybrid Buses

Blacksburg Transit now has nine hybrid buses, seven New Flyer 40' buses and two 60' articulated buses. (Articulated bus in motion.) (On average, New Flyer’s diesel-electric hybrids use 20-50% less fuel. They also offer an estimated 36-tonne reduction in greenhouse gas emissions per bus each year.)

Town of Blacksburg and Virginia Tech and Greenhouse Gases Emissions
A detailed inventory of the Town's and the community's GWG emissions was done with the help of Urban Affairs and Planning students of Dr. John Randolph and Dr. Damian Pitt at VT. (See also.) A climate action plan based on the GWG-emissions inventory is being developed; its goals were approved by the TOB Counsel in 2009. Virginia Tech has adopted a Climate Action Commitment Resolution similar to the TOB plan. (See also.) VT has a very active Office of Sustainability.
